Taxes due Sept. 15

2023-24 Property tax bills have been mailed to property owners. Taxes may be paid upon receipt, or can be paid by the due dates on the bill. The first installment must be paid no later than September 15, 2023 and the second installment must be paid no later than March 15, 2024.    - Retain for second installment payment information
   - Keep the bill for your 2023 income tax filing

Checks should be made payable to “Town of Essex” and may be paid at the Town Office. An exterior drop-box is available (please be sure to include a copy of your bill with your payment to provide us with the correct account number). To request a receipt please email clerk@essex.org.

Credit and debit cards are accepted at the Town office (81 Main Street), by phone at 888-877-0450, or on our online payment system. Convenience fees will be charged (2.65%, $3.95 minimum). There is also an E-check option available. Paying by E-check includes a flat $1.95 convenience fee.

Another payment option is to sign up for the free automatic tax payment program.  Enroll by filling out the form below and send with a voided check to Town of Essex, Attn: Finance, 81 Main Street, Essex Jct. VT 05452.  Installment amounts would be automatically deducted from your bank account on the due date.

Questions & Due Date

For questions about the tax bill, or if you need a copy of your bill, please call the Town office at 802-879-0413, option 6. Payments received or postmarked after the due date are considered delinquent.  Any amounts that remain unpaid will be charged 8% penalty.  Interest of 1% will be charged the 16th of each month beginning thirty days after the due date.
Pursuant to
24 V.S.A. §1535, taxpayers have the right to seek relief from the Board of Abatement for the reasons outlined in statute.
