Essex Human Services Fund

Every year, the Town of Essex, Vermont invites program funding requests from nonprofits who support the delivery of vital community services.  Using a range of resources, the Essex Selectboard determines specific focus areas as human service priorities for residents of the Essex community.

Recent News

March 2, 2021: The FY22 Budget in the amount of $159,261 for Essex Human Services Funding was approved by voters. Awards for FY22 funds will be made in May 2022.

November 16, 2020:  The Selectboard approved the FY21 Focus Areas. Online applications are now being accepted through February 15, 2021.

May 12, 2020:  FY20 Essex Human Services Funding allocations were awarded.  The Town of Essex provided $148,306 in funds to local nonprofits.

March 3, 2020:  The FY21 Budget in the amount of $153,322 for Essex Human Services Funding was approved by voters.  Awards for FY21 funds will be made in May 2021.

February 16, 2020: Applications for FY20 Essex Human Services funding are no longer being accepted.  The review team has started the scoring process.  Announcements will be made by June 2020.


Local area social, health and human services organizations who serve Essex residents are encouraged to apply to the Town of Essex for funding. Only those that are non-profit organizations who are considered a 501 (c)3 or that file an annual Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form 990 tax return are eligible.  All funding proposals must align with the Essex Human Services Focus Areas.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion provides support for initiatives to build diversity, equity, and inclusion into the community or for program enhancement to build diversity, equity and inclusion into nonprofit program services, operations, board recruitment and staff hiring.  Applicants selecting this area may implement ways to enhance access of program services to marginalized communities and/or offer culturally responsive services; promote diverse staffing or governance of programs; and/or support initiatives that build capacity.  Examples would be improved language access, transportation, stipends to assist with travel/child care needs in order to have accessibility, or shifting engagement to intentionally seek to include marginalized perspectives and experiences.
