To our Library Community,

We are sorry to report that a harmful incident took place this morning during our Virtual Author event, in which an unknown person entered the online meeting and shared inappropriate and offensive language and content. As a public library, we always strive to make our space and programs welcoming and inclusive, and we are beyond distressed that such a hurtful offense occurred. It is unacceptable and goes against our library’s mission and all that we stand for. To the people and families in attendance, we are so sorry for this experience and for the harm it caused.

The Essex Free Library and the Town of Essex do not condone criminal, offensive, and racist acts of any kind. We are taking the matter very seriously and an investigation is taking place.

We love our community and aim to always provide our patrons with enriching opportunities, services, and programs. We are devastated that such an offense occurred and are making the greatest of efforts to ensure that such an offense does not happen again.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Caitlin Corless
